Vick Wins Award, Players Combat Bullies

Today, the Associated Press named Eagles quarterback Michael Vick its Comeback Player of the Year, and it's clearly well deserved. After spending nearly two years in prison and being released by the Atlanta Falcons, Vick was picked up by the Eagles as a third-string backup. He spent a year behind McNabb and Kolb in Philly before the dramatic shakeup that was the 2010 season. Vick went his first six starts with no interceptions, and had only six to finish out the season. Unfortunately, his final interception ended the game against the Super Bowl-bound Packers and the Eagles' hopes for the Lombardi Trophy in 2010.Vick's amazing performance on the field brought him the well deserved Comeback award, and he was surpassed only by New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for the Offensive Player of the Year award. With the Eagles expected to franchise Vick for the 2011 season, he hopes to maintain and surpass the feats accomplished this year as he helps the Eagles rebuild from a tumultuous season.

In other Eagles news, Desean Jackson, Todd Herremans, and Jamaal Jackson surprised Nadin Khoury, a 13 year-old boy from Upper Darby, with a visit and gifts. In early January, Khoury was assaulted and brutally beaten by a group of seven boys, ages 16 - 17. The incident has been referenced as a part of the bullying problem with teens that has gotten national news coverage recently. The players met Khoury on the TV show The View, where he was being interviewed about the videos of him being bullied and beaten that had appeared on YouTube. Jackson encouraged Khoury to stay strong, saying "...anything ever happen again, you let us know, we got you," refering to himself and the two linemen. Khoury told Jackson that he idolized the Eagles receiver in an emotional moment.

Greg Manusky New Face of The Chargers Defense

Last year the San Diego Chargers were fortunate enough to have the Number 1 defense in the league, but I mean who cares? We may have had the Number 1 defense but they were so sporadic and would show up some days and disappear others. Let me just say that the "Number 1 Defense" tag is a bit of a over statement.

Every Charger fan remembers those games where they struggled to get it together at the right times. I mean Rams anyone? I remember our corner backs getting exposed by the rookie Sam Bradford. Cason got burnt by this unknown WR named Danerio Alexander. WHO?!? Who remembers when Philip Rivers drove us down the field to score and then hoped the defense would step up, and failed to stop the run? Our "Number 1 Defense" did what? Yea allow Steven Jackson to run all over them en route to winning the game and digging us into a whole.

How about the Raiders game? They did it twice to us. They not only exposed our rushing defense but also our corners. They ran and passed all over us. Our "Number 1 Defense" made Jason Campell and Carson Palmer look like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

Well, now that my rant is over, you can tell I feel no sympathy in losing Ron Rivera and am not happy with what we call the "Number 1 Defense." Statistics lie however that is the past. Welcome Greg Manusky. Former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator. He looks like he can be the fix to our team. I always said that we need more loud and obnoxious coaches rather than soft and quiet coaches (Norv anyone?).

“My job is to get these guys excited about what they’re doing,” Manusky said. “Is there Red Bull involved? Yeah. Uptime? Yeah. Two of those and you’re wired." Am I happy to have this guy? Yes, will he bring a new demeanor to our defense? Yes. Can he improve our defense? Absolutely! I can not wait to see what this guy has to offer our defense when the year starts. I feel he is the answer to our problems on defense and soon we will see.

6 Chiefs to Pro Bowl

After the Steelers secured a trip to the Super Bowl this past weekend, it was announced that Kansas City Chiefs players Tamba Hali and Eric Berry would be heading to the pro bowl as areplacements. Hali has to be considered the biggest snub this season as he lead the AFC with 14.5 sacks. He is the first Chiefs linebacker to be named to the pro bowl since Derrick Thomas made it back in 1997.
Eric Berry becomes the first Chiefs rookie to be named to a Pro Bowl since 1989 when Derrick Thomas made it. Berry lead the Chiefs this season with 4 interceptions. Berry and Hali are replacing Steelers players, S Troy Polamalu and LB James Harrison. This will be each players first selection to the Pro Bowl.
They will be joined in Hawaii by Chiefs players RB Jamaal Charles, G Brian Waters, WR Dwayne Bowe, and QB Matt Cassel. Cassel was named a replacement last week for Patriots QB Tom Brady who is having surgery on his foot.
The Pro Bowl is this sunday on FOX at 7:00(EST). After playing last years game at the Super Bowl host stadium, the game returns to Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.
